The Music Man
Cold theft by Coldplay?
So I bought the last album the soft-rock band Coldplay put out in 2007, which rests alongside their 3 previous releases, and loved how they implemented a string orchestra to their music in Viva La Vida (the album’s title).
Hands down my favorite song is “Strawberry Swing” however their single which later won the “best song of the year” Grammy award was “Viva La Vida”.
With such a glamorous award bestowed upon them it goes to say that the piece is a stroke of genius right?
Well maybe…if it was an original song.
That’s right ladies and germs I AM talking about the much alleged plagiarism Coldplay committed to create “Viva La Vida.”
Joe Satriani sued Coldplay for plagiarizing his song “If I Could Fly” released in 2005.
Personally, I only noticed the Satriani’s melody matching Coldplay’s verse and the rhythm of the song along with the same chord progression.
However I’m not a musicologist so I took it upon myself to look up some videos on the matter and wanted to share with you what I found
Here are some links on YouTube:
Did Coldplay Steal Joe Satriani’s Song?
Coming from a fan of Coldplay who bought all their albums and an amateur musician, I find it disgusting and criminal to copy another person’s work and claim it as one’s own.
Coldplay has run out of gas and plagiarized “If I Could Fly” to fuel their attempt to sell in today’s slowing economy.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re sued by Radiohead or Pavement.
But that’s just me.
What do YOU think?

About the Blogger
Hello, I'm a broke college student currently at UCLA. What's my name? Don't worry about it...but seeing that I have to give it, it's Raziel Lizarraga and I enjoy anything that has to do with contemporary music.Born in Mexico, I have lived in Imperial Valley for 15 years and still can't get used to wearing shorts all year long.
What will I blog on? Good question, I mentioned contemporary music as being an art that I enjoy but I'll specifically comment on rock music and anything else except rap. I encourage comments amongst readers and I'll try to address questions concerning my excerpts on a "If-I-like-it" basis.
