‘I’ve been waiting to play Superman since I was 14 years old’: Henry Cavill in a new interview, says he is not a typical “girly guy”
Superman in a new interview, shares his plans to return as the Man of Steel.
The 44-year-old actor is returning to the role he hasn’t played since the 2011 Superman Returns movie reboot. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cavill revealed he was originally offered an executive producer position during the first Superman movie, but he chose to return to the role he first auditioned for, back when he was 14 years old.
Superman’s return has been a long time coming, though, as he had planned to bring the character to “two or three years before”, but the 2011 reboot of the series had to be postponed.
In the interview, Cavill explains how he had started to get used to the new, darker tone of the series, and how it was the perfect opportunity to bring the character back. With director Bryan Singer returning to direct the new movie, Cavill says he was very much aware he was going to be playing Superman, even though he hadn’t signed his contract yet.
Cavill adds that he chose to return to the character because he needed a fresh start.
“I knew that if I didn’t do it, you know, I’d just be sitting around waiting for something to happen with the Superman franchise. And maybe it would happen at a certain point in my career where it wasn’t so great to begin with, and so I figured it would be better to just come back for the character. So, I just came back to be Superman, and I’ve been playing Superman ever since.”
