Brawley Police are still looking for the prime suspect in an attempted stabbing murder  that may be gang-related.

Jesus Delacruz, 20, wanted in connection with attempted murder

Jesus Delacruz, 20, wanted in connection with attempted murder on Oct. 21

Jesus Delacruz, 20, is believed to be hiding out in Mexicali, according to authorities, following the multiple stabbing of a 23-year-old Brawley man shortly before midnight on Wednesday, October 21 in the 1400 block of Welcome Street in Brawley.  Sgt. Cory Vandriessche said the stabbing attack was prefaced by an argument between Delacruz and the victim at a private party earlier in the evening in which the victim “disrespected” the suspect.

Vandriessche says Delacruz is a “documented gang member” and witness accounts have Delacruz and the stabbing victim arguing at the party.  The victim reportedly said something about Delacruz and/or his gang.

Police will not identify the stabbing victim, but they say he has been released from UC San Diego Medical Center in stable condition, and presumably into the care of his family in Brawley.

Aside from the wanted Delacruz, three other people are jailed as suspects in the attack.  Raquel Uribe, 21, and Eric Lizarraga, 22, are in the Imperial County jail on attempted murder charges.  A third suspect, not earlier identified in media reports, Desiree Virdusco, 23, of Brawley, was also taken into custody, according to Vandriessche.

Vandriessche says all three are considered accessories in the attempted murder because they played roles that led up to the stabbing.  “According to witnesses, the females instigated it,” he said, “and he (Lizarraga) was seen getting out of his vehicle with the suspect (Delacruz) at the location of the stabbing.”

Lizarraga is also reported to have taken a baseball bat out of his car at the party and threaten the victim with it.  “Witnesses say he made statements like, ‘I know where you live,’ to the victim,” Vandriessche said.

Brawley police are asking anyone with information about Delacruz to call 760-344-2111.
