Qatar unprepared for World Cup air traffic crush, report says
The annual air traffic crush is scheduled to take place on July 11, 2019, which will coincide with the 2018 World Cup final between Saudi Arabia and Germany. Qatar says it will take all measures necessary to reduce air traffic in readiness for the big event that will be a high-intensity competition.
Doha airline Qatar Airways has announced plans to reduce air traffic during the year leading up to the World Cup Final in July 2019. It will conduct the reduced air traffic on June 1, 2019 and June 6, 2019 to facilitate and maintain a high-quality environment that will support the football fans with the latest in transport and communication systems, the company said in a press statement on Tuesday.
The reduced air traffic will take place at all the primary and secondary airports of Qatar on those dates. It will be conducted to reduce any traffic congestion at the primary and secondary airports of Qatari territory that will enable the Qatari people to receive the highest quality experience by providing the fastest and best flight operations possible, the airline said.
“The reduced air traffic is part of the action plan which Qatar Airways will implement to support the 2019 FIFA World Cup Final that will take place on July 11, 2019. The air traffic will be conducted in the primary airports of Qatar in accordance with the best practice as stipulated by Qatari laws, regulations and resolutions,” the company said in statement.
“The reduced air traffic will be conducted during the year leading up to the World Cup Final in a manner which will facilitate and maintain air quality that will support the FIFA World Cup Final, the highest-level international competition in the history of Qatar,” it added.
Qatar Airways will also enhance its international operating network to support the expected high-density traffic and the World Cup Final, as well as improve its safety, security and quality of services operations, the airline said.
